CommunityMusic Works Center
FORT GREEN, BROOKLYN, NY
After researching and exploring the site in Fort Greene, Brooklyn through various explorations like phenomenal mapping exercises. One in particulate lead to me a stick on the site in Fort Greene Park and I began to measure the different thresholds I encountered around the site. This naturally occurring tool on the site inspired me to reconnect my building to the earth. While I was getting to know the site, I also was getting to know the needs of CMW and their focus on community and music. These ideas led me to think about the many powerful forces of duality in nature eventually leading to the need to shift, crack, and create a threshold through the land. This inspired the forms from my mid-term project which have developed into my proposal for CMW community center. Performance, education, and music are all important aspects in how I organized these components into two prominent structures, learning and growth in the community center and performance, awe, and spectacle in The Jewel.
